Menomonee Barriers removal

In 2013, Stormwater Solutions Engineering was hired by R.A. Smith National, Inc. to assist with this project for Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The project consisted of the removal of five concrete barriers that crossed the Menomonee River. These barriers consisted of three metropolitan interceptor sewers (MIS), a masonry grade control structure, and a concrete road crossing. The objective was to both naturalize the riverway and allow for the passage of aquatic organisms, while minimizing the disruption of the riverbed and its banks. Construction was completed in 2015. These river-goers can now swim freely between Lake Michigan and the upper reaches of the Menomonee River.
